Castle Street
Castle Street was historically known as the 'Lawyer's Street' or the 'English Street' and many houses have a tale to tell, such as coaches stopping to change horses at travellers inns in times gone by and old school rooms for the education of local children.
At the end of the street there is the splendid Ruthin Castle a favourite of 'Bertie' Prince of Wales and which today has a fine restaurant of that name.
In the middle of the street is Nantclwyd y Dre, the most important house in Ruthin and now wonderfully restored along with its garden and open to the public. It was the residence for visiting judges who sat in the Assize Court, now the Nat West Bank which is at the other end of the street and where one can see the gibbet from which convicted criminals were executed.
